How to Apply Hand Drawn Effect in Photoshop

A quick little step by step guide showing you how to apply a hand drawn effect to your photo using Adobe Photoshop.

1. Open photo and duplicate background layer

2. Desaturate new layer

   • (Control Command + U) or Image > Adjustments > Desaturate

3. Duplicate Desaturated Layer

4. Invert New Layer (Ctrl + I)

5. Change Layer Blend mode to Color Dodge

6. Convert layer to smart object

7. Add gaussian blur (around 45-50)

8. Add a level filter adjustment layer

9. Change Level Layer blend mode to “Multiply” and blend more by changing the opacity to 40%

 To add color

1. Duplicate background layer again, first one.

2. Name layer “Color”

3. Drag Color layer to top

4. Change color layer blend mode to “Color”

5. If color is strong, change opacity.
